If you have my Healthy eBook you will notice that I also mainly use coconut oil instead of other oils commonly found in all of our homes. Why?
When cooking with oils you need to choose oils that when heated above certain temperatures do not oxidise and turn into bad fats. When cooking choose oils that will remain stable such as coconut oil. Avoid vegetable oils including canola and sunflower oil.
So what are the health benefits of using coconut oil? Benefits include:
* Reduces protein loss in hair and nourishes the hair
* Helps in easy digestion
* Strengthens immune system
* Prevents and effectively cures candida
* Prevents wrinkles, sagging skin, skin dryness and flaking
* Improves bone health
* Rich in lauric acid that helps maintain blood sugar and cholesterol
* Effective in healing damaged tissues and infections
* Treats pancreatitis and Alzheimer’s disease
* Prevents diseases affecting liver and kidney
The one that all us ladies like to hear is that coconut oil is useful for weight loss. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and endocrine system. Further, it increases the body’s metabolic rate by removing stress on the pancreas, thereby burning more energy and helping obese and overweight people lose the weight.
When you buy coconut oil you will notice that it is solid. Unlike most other oils, coconut oil has a high melting point about 24 to 25 degrees Celsius or 76-78 Fahrenheit. Therefore it is solid at room temperature and melts only when the temperature rises considerably. You will notice in summer on really hot days it will melt. Don’t keep your coconut oil in the refrigerator.
As you can see from the list of health benefits there are also many uses for coconut oil besides cooking. Coconut oil is great for hair and skin care, simply melt the oil put on the palm of your hand and apply to your hair or skin.
Again as in my previous blog about Himalayan salt choose coconut oil over other common household oils to have a big impact on your total health and well-being. Next time you are at your local store buy some coconut oil, with its increase in healthy benefit awareness and popularity you should be able to find it at any supermarket. Why not make this small change for a big health benefit for you and your family.
