Since starting my healthy lifestyle my number one aim is to inspire others to do the same. One question I often get asked is eating healthy expensive? And is the number one deterrent to start a healthy lifestyle.

So here is my theory on the cost of healthy eating! Once you have yourself set up with all the healthier ingredients, yes this can be an expensive exercise to start but you don’t have to go out and buy everything at once, I have now found the cost to healthy eating to be the same as it was prior to changing. Start by adding healthier ingredients into your pantry and fridge progressively. Once you have most of the ingredients you will not be required to buy them every week i.e. coconut oil and you are simply just buying the ingredients when they run out as you would normally do with the ingredients currently in your pantry and fridge.

I figure stocking your pantry and fridge with healthy ingredients is just like when you move out of home or move house and you have to start again with stocking them. This time you are choosing healthier options than what you are used to.

When you start a healthier lifestyle you will also stop buying many other products and ingredients that you used to buy especially packaged foods that have been processed and are high in sugar, salt and bad fats. These will include biscuits both sweet and savoury, cakes, lollies, chips, ice creams, white bread, white pastas, pre-packaged food etc. which I have found by not buying these that my shopping bills are now the same. Your trolley should be filled with fresh produce like fruit, vegetables, meats, poultry and seafood rather than packaged processed foods. Once you start your healthy lifestyle you will end up only buying fresh produce and will save lots of money by doing so.

To save money on your shopping bills why not shop at your local markets, farmers markets, they have amazing fresh, good quality produce that is often much cheaper than your local supermarket. Another tip for saving money is to look out for when healthier ingredients are on special, even if you don’t need it, stock up on it as it will often be much cheaper.

My other important point on a healthy lifestyle that I often tell people when they comment on how eating healthy is expensive is to think about the long term effects on your health. It may seem expensive and time consuming to eat healthy but it is even more expensive to get sick and you will have no choice but to find the time for illness.

Starting a healthy lifestyle will be the best thing you ever do and you will not look back. Not only does it make you look better i.e. weight loss, skin and hair condition along with many other benefits it also makes you feel so much better. Once you reach that point of feeling better you will wonder why you didn’t make the change earlier.
